I gotta tell you, I don't know whether to laugh or cry! I received a check from the Georgia Department of Revenue in the amount of $.60, that's 60 cents. Why you ask? because it took the Georgia Department of Revenue over 90 days past the April 15th due date to send me my refund. They pay 1% per month when the refund is past the April 15th due date. My refund was $60.00 and I received it one month after the 90 days had elapsed. Thus the 60 cents.
While I think it is wonderful that Georgia complied with the law, but I have to wonder what it must have cost them to write the software, that calculated the interest rate on all of the refunds that were overdue. I know that thousands and thousands and thousands of people did not receive their refund in a timely manner, and I am sure that most of those people were owed a great deal more money then I received.
After what I have been hearing about Georgia's tax revenue shortfall, maybe they need this 60 cents more then I do, you think!?!
I would love to hear your comments folks. Thanks for listening.

Won't do Taxes this year...........
Well folks,
After going to 4 weeks of advanced classes on this years tax changes, I have decided I ain't a gonna do it this year. Maybe never again. I worked for Jackson Hewitt last year during the Tax Season and after all was said and done, I barely made enough money to pay for my gas to and from the office. There just wasn't enough business to keep me everybody busy. There is too much competition in this business. It is possible to get your taxes done for free in any number of places. Places include the internet, senior centers, the IRS itself, and numerous other sources such as the AARP organization.
On top of the free places, you can drive around in any town and find several places that do taxes. most of them with instant refunds, of course you pay through the nose for the instant refunds. The bank fees are unbelievable. Then you add on the fees required by the tax preparer and oof! you begin to wonder if the fees are worth what you get.
It's not that I minded doing the taxes. For the most part I actually enjoyed working with people to solve their tax issues. Believe me when I tell you that you are not alone when it comes to having tax issues. Many, many people have some kind of issue.
Yes I have had people try to cheat on their taxes, and when they do and I detect it, I will try to steer them away from doing so, or if they insist I do something I know is illegal I will send them away without doing their taxes. I have done taxes for a long time and I am registered as a tax preparer with both the IRS and the State of Georgia, Texas, California, and North Carolina. I have yet to be called in to deal with questionable taxes and I don't intend to get called in.
The penalty is too steep at 25 years in a federal penitentiary.
Well I guess I have spouted off long enough.

One more day 'till tax deadline is here.
Well folks,
Here it is, April 14, 2009 just one day before this years tax deadline. I am sitting at work waiting for customers to come streaming in to have their taxes done. Ha, Ha, there is nobody breaking down the doors to have their taxes done.
I can remember in years gone by, when the last week was such a big rush of people that we couldn't wait on the customers fast enough. I remember spending 14 to 16 hours a day doing taxes. When I was doing that I was also working a full time job. Talk about being tired after the end of the tax season. I could sleep 24 hours around the clock.
This season and last season have really been slow. I attribute this to all of the off the shelf software, such as TurboTax, and Tax Facts, please free assistance from the IRS and from AARP senior tax assistance which is also free. Add to that the fact that Turbotax offers people the opportunity to do their federal taxes for free on line and then the state for about $15.00, it certainly takes away our business.
On another note my wife who is bedridden with a broken leg has to be left alone for several hours while I am at work, and I really don't like leaving her alone. It has been 4 weeks since her accident and she is definitely improving slowly.
At the moment I am a little bored.

Its Tax Season.
Here I sit watching channel 3 weather and news trying to remember what I was going to blog about. I worked at Jackson Hewitt Tax preparers last night and even did a couple of returns.
I really enjoy doing tax returns most of the time. Why? because at least 9 out of 10 people receive refunds. I have been doing taxes since the 60's on a seasonal basis. It has allowed me to get out and meet many different kinds of people.
Doing taxes today is a great deal different from when I started back in the 60's. Back then we had to use paper forms, a pencil, and a ten key adder. We also didn't have all of the standardized forms that are available today. In fact, my opinion is that we have entirely too many forms in our lives.
It looks like we have colder weather and rain moving in on us today. I hope we get a good deal of rain, but not with any severe weather along with it. I think we have had enough in the way of severe weather.
