A few months back I had to get a replacement sliding door for my van. My van has electric locks in the doors but the replacement had manual.
So, finally today, being such a beautiful day, I decided to take all the door hardware and swap it out with the replacement door. Now, this entailed taking off the inside door panel, then disconnecting and removing all the door opening and locking hardware. All of this took me almost two hours to do, but finally got it done. Then I had to replace the fuse for the door locking/unlocking circuit.
Then guess what, the electric locks now work, and, in addition my key now works in all of the doors, whoopie.
Keep in mind that my van is a 1994 model so it does not have the remote control key fob, you actually have to stick the key in the keyhole to unlock and lock the door.
Oh yes! the dome lights now stay off when the doors are all closed, which they didn't do until I put the electric door lock mechanism back on the car. It seems the computer checks the system impedance, and if it isn't correct keeps the dome lights on.
Can't drive at night with them on, so I had to remove the light bulbs, go figure. I put the bulbs back in as the circuit now works like it oughta.
Ain't nothin simple anymore.
God Bless
gahillbilly.
