Dealing With the Doctor(s).

DEALING WITH THE DOCTOR(S)!

It is a well known fact that dealing with Doctors can be a real pain in the ass. Why you ask? Because so many Doctors think they are God, or at least God Like. And, too many people accept that God Like persona as a fact.

Thus, a great deal of the time patients don't tell their Doctors what is really wrong, and/or if you do manage to tell the Doctor what is wrong he doesn't listen, "I mean Listen". Instead the Doctor comes to what he thinks is the diagnoses and proceeds to order tests and/or prescribe medications, that may or may not be what is needed.

I have also seen the Doctor ignore a patient entirely, and begin to run his own agenda on what needs to be done to fix, what he perceives as the problem.

I am here to tell you, Doctor's are not God or God Like, they are human beings just like all the rest of us. Claudia and I were very particular in selecting our Primary Physician when we moved here from North Carolina. I have to admit that Claudia did a lot of talking to people and calling patients of Doctors she heard about that she thought might be a good one to try. We finally found Dr. Fredd Miller, who at the time was located in Peachtree City. Since we lived in Jonesboro it was about a 20 mile drive to get to him, but he turned out to be the right Doctor. Dr. Miller is still my primary Care Doctor. He has been my Doctor for 21 years now. I remember when he got married and was happy for him and his wife when they had their two children. Doctor Miller now practices in Buck Head, and since I live in Powder Springs, it is a good 30 mile drive to go see him. But it is still worth it.

Why is he such a great Doctor? Because he takes the time to listen to what kind of problem we are having. If he doesn't understand what we are telling him, he will ask questions and do his examination to determine what the problem is. In Claudia's case, because of her being a Polio Victim and then a Post Polio Victim, he took the time to learn what Post Polio was and is, so that he could factor in the effects of that disease. Dr. Miller also recommends only those tests that are absolutely necessary to confirm or eliminate a suspected cause for a problem.

Whenever I have to see a specialist, I make sure he will listen to me and talk to me, not at me. I make sure he knows that will ask him and expect him to answer my questions.

As a result of the way in which I talk to a Doctor, and the fact that I make it clear, I want to know what he is doing and why he is doing it, I usually have good results.

If there is any one piece of advice I can give you, it is "You must believe you are just as smart and worthy as he/she is." "If you don't understand something, then ask questions until you do understand it."

Keep in mind, when you don't understand something, it doesn't mean you are stupid! it just means you have no knowledge of that particular subject, but you can learn.

Well! that is all from the gahillbilly.

God Bless us all. Amen.
