ABOUT RELATIVES AND VISITING.

ABOUT RELATIVES AND VISITING.

I have mentioned a few times, on social media, and in my Journal Blog, that I have relatives scattered all across the country. I even have relatives, who are related by marriage in other countries.

With the advent of the Internet, I have been fortunate enough to get back in touch with a significant number of those relatives. I, should of course, mentioned getting back in touch with friends and their families. Add the ability for some relatives to use the miracle of writing and mass mailing emails to family and you have simply wonderful, free(low cost) ways of communicating with family and friends.

Why do I bring this up at this time, you ask? Well it is because my third oldest daughter Christine decided to drive up from Texas and spend Thanksgiving Week with me. And spend time together we did. We watched TV, read from our Kindle's, spent time with my grandchildren, visited her half sister and my youngest daughter. Went out to dinner together and just enjoyed each other's company. It has been good for the soul, and good for both of our health'.

I say this because I can remember as a child, my parents loading all of us children in the car and going to visit our grandparents, our aunts and uncles, and our cousins. Pay attention here folks, I said we drove to their homes to visit, in person. We played together, ate together, and told stories on each other. We often slept over. It gave us memories for life.

Now, compare that with tapping an app on your iphone, or laptop or whatever. Or with using anagrams, cryptograms, shorthand, and whatever to communicate with a friend or relative. It isn't the same folks, even if we make a big deal out of doing so, often to the exclusion of all else.

Now!! I have said all of this, Why?? because we as a nation are losing our ability to be with one another, to talk with one another, to touch one another, to love one another, and even to hate one another. Tell me; where is life in all of this?? Where?? I would love to see a dialog on this subject, and I would love even more to see us meet in person and communicate with one another.

Well, enough proselytizing by the gahillbilly.

God Bless you one and all. Amen.

  1. I couldn't agree more my friend! As a child we drove to Lake Placid, NY where my mother was born a couple times and met distant relatives. I heard stories from elderly aunts and uncles that I'll treasure the rest of my life. There's simply no way that kind of interaction could take place by texting, sending an e-mail or even writing a one page letter.

We also drove out to Colorado Springs, CO a few times where my parents met and married. Memories of the Garden of the God's, camping, walking down Pike's Peak were made. I hated the car riding part at the time because of vinyl seats, no air conditioning and 6 people in '77 Chevy Malibu, I wouldn't mind making a long drive with my brothers and sister now.

Now, with all that said, I'd sure love it if you'd come up here and visit! Keep preaching my friend.
