ON MAKING FRIENDS
This is a subject I've being thinking a lot about.
This subject is what I have been thinking actively about for at least two years now. Here are a couple of quick examples of what I am talking about.
- 1. I sit in the 3rd row back in the center of the church. So, when I am not in Church, I get calls asking me how I am from several people. When I do show up at Church I have all kinds of people, many of whom I can't remember their name asking how I am, am I ok.
- 2. I attend the Monday night Men's Bible Study. Again, if I don't show up, one or more of the other attendees will call to check on me. To make sure I am ok, and if not they will come to the hospital or the house to see for themselves how I am.
- 3. Last year I made a habit of going to the gym 2 or 3 times a week to do cardio and strengthening exercises. I got to know all of the staff, including the owner. In addition, I also got to know other patrons. Just this week I went back to the gym to take up regular exercising. All of the staff not only came over and hugged me, but also remembered my name, even though I didn't remember all of theirs.
Just reviewing the above examples, makes me wonder how and why it is that everybody remembers me including my name.
I am trying to figure out what it is that I do or don't do that makes people remember, and actually are glad to see me.
- 4. Something else I find interesting is that the Pastor of my Church follows me on FaceBook. Not only does he follow me, but he will make comments once in a while. (I do count him as a friend, BTW.)
- 5. I also have 375 friends who follow me on FB. And yes, I do know most of them. At least 75 or so are relatives. Many more of them are either my friends or are friends of my friends or my relatives. It doesn't take too long to build up a significant number of friends at this rate.
- 6. There is one area that this is not strictly true, and that has to do with getting along with my own children and siblings. As my youngest daughter loves telling, when we get together we clash. All of my family including my children, and siblings are stubborn, and extremely strong willed. As a consequence absence makes the heart grow fonder. This would explain why my family is scattered across the country from coast to coast, and border to border. So we communicate by email, phone, or social media, but not in person.
So, I still don't have an answer to the original question. More thought and research is required.
That's all for now.
