Genealogy and Family.

I have made a statement on Facebook about the fact that I have been able to make contact with my relatives, some of which I haven't ever talked to and some of which I hadn't talked to in over 50 years. I know, that is a sad state of affairs but it is true. Along with Facebook, another side of my family corresponds via email. My youngest daughter, Elizabeth, has set up an interface on her own website called sdb@ladykatza.com, which is a listing of my deceased wife's relatives email addresses. Before Claudia's mother died, several years ago, Delores would send out a chatty email almost daily, and usually all her children and some of the cousins, aunts, or uncles would add additional family happenings in the emails. It is still in use, but not quite so frequently.

Anyway, as a result of my comments about being able to communicate with farflung members of my family, the subject of who was who, who were the children of which parents, who were cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws, etc. So I am currently investigating how to set up a web site wherein all the various relatives can input their family information into a geneological tree or chart.

I know my Dad did a lot of work on our ancestory and I plan to use it, also my cousin Mike Brinkman has information, I have information, as do several other people. I am hoping that I can use Google's Blogger capability and upload the genealogical software directly into it. That way I don't have to pay for a website. I would rather not have to pay a monthly fee to maintain a website. I have lost too much money trying to earn money. Anyway, enough said on that subject.

I know that Claudia's brother-in-law Rod Johnson has done an extensive bit of work on the Stoddard and Johnson families ancestory, and I am hoping he will be willing to share it. We shall see.

May God Bless us all.

A lovely dinner was had by all.

Elizabeth and her family come to our house yesterday to fix Claudia a dinner for her birthday. Claudia wanted Crab legs, so Elizabeth went to the store and came back with dinner.

She fixed boiled crab legs, roasted asparagus and brussel sprouts, linguine Alfredo with baby portabello mushrooms and some scallops. Elizabeth has become an amazing cook.

It was refreshing to have our daughter and her family sitting down to dinner with us, just delightful. Thank you Elizabeth and Daecon for being here.

Oh! yes I did the dishes. Now this doesn't sound like much, except that our dishwasher broke down a couple of months ago and we haven't been able to afford a new one, or to fix the one we have. I guess I will break down and fix it myself. I do have the ability to do so.

God Bless us all

It's Monday, the start of a new week.

It's Monday, the start of a new week. Yesterday I removed the stitches from my thumb. The area looks very rough, but it is healing, and the swelling has gone down quite a bit.

It's hard to believe that it is the middle of the year already. June 15 is also my youngest daughters birthday. She turns 30 something today.

She and her husband and 2 children will celebrate somehow today. Unfortunately Claudia and I can't be there to help her celebrate. We have no way of transporting Claudia from point to point as she requires a van with either a ramp or a lift suitable for a power wheel chair.

In fact, we rarely go anywhere because of lack of transport.

life does go on.

DELETE OR DELIGHT?

Have you ever thought about the two words Delete or Delight?
Well, I have and the two are tied closer together then you might think. When I am reviewing each of my emails I am thinking, "is this going to be a Delightful message, or is it going to be a deleted message."
Most of the time I have to say that the messages are for deleting. As an information junkee I would love to be able to open each and every email and read their message. But I know I can't do that, as I would spend 24/7 doing nothing but reading somebodies message.
My family has an email correspondence network setup so then when anyone of us wants to communicate something to the family, we prepare an email and send it to the family list. This practice has saved me thousands of dollars over the past several years. My wife used to get on the phone to talk to her siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins just to gab and pass on the family gossip. Each month I would grit my teeth and pay the telephone bill, to the tune of $200.00 or more dollars. Thank god for email.
Of course email doesn't do yourself or your family any good if you don't use it with your family and friends.

I receive hundreds of emails a day, and while most of them are meaningless to me, every once in a while there is a gem that will pop out with a joke, a picture, a product, or a message that will catch my eye or my heart. If it really reaches out and touches me, I will save it for future reference, and if possible send a note to the sender, thanking them for the message.

Back to delete or delight; now whenever you look at all of the emails on your computer you can take delight in deleting or delighting.

Smile your on candid camera.
