My dog Daisy is a Jack Russell Terrier and she is a devoted friend to Claudia and I. Why am I discussing my dog, you ask? Because, she is my friend. Now Daisy is a pure bred Jack Russell, but she is not the usually light brown and white with a couple of small black spots here and there, she is black and white with a couple of very small light brown spots. The brown spots are hardly noticeable.
Jack Russell Terrier as a breed are extremely loyal as well as extremely protective. Oh! I should mention that Daisy thinks she is a person, so let us not disabuse her of this notion.
We have two cats named Tigger and Murphy. Both of them used to come in the house and spend time with us, but since Daisy arrived 5 years ago, we have not had Tigger and Murphy in the house. Daisy goes after them with a vengeance.
Jack Russell Terrier's are also noted for their ability to jump straight up in the air. Even I have trouble believing how high she can jump. I am 6 feet 1 inch tall, and Daisy can jump all the way up to my chest level with no trouble at all.
Claudia and I haven't figured out how Daisy can be laying on the couch, suddenly jump up barking like crazy to go out front. When I look out front there are usually kids, or dogs or cats either going by the house on the street, or they have the audacity to come in her yard. I speaking of Daisy's yard here. I will let Daisy out the door and she flies so fast she is a blur, all the time barking at the intruders, sounding like she will tear them apart. Daisy will not back down even in the face of a dog 5 or 6 times her size. She is also very, very persistent.
When Daisy gets done protecting her family and her property she comes trotting back to the house with her head and tail high smiling for all she is worth. "Now see what I did, I protected you, what are you going to do for me?" She will bark to come in the house, and expect to be praised.
Even a pat on the head or a good girl makes her day.
When we go to bed at night, Daisy waits until we are settled down, and then she jumps up on the bed, walks calmly up between the two of us, sticks her head under the covers and snakes her way down to the bottom of the bed and usually lays up against Claudia's legs.
The only problem with this situation is that Claudia is suffering from post polio syndrome, and is often too weak to move Daisy when she wants to roll over. At times it gets to be very frustrating
to Claudia and to me.
Crawling under the covers whether it is their own bed or our bed is a trait of the Jack Russell Terrier. I didn't know this until we acquired Daisy.
Daisy loves to chase after her doughnut and to play tug of war with her moose leather, which still has the hair on it. She will pick up her doughnut and bring it over to me and put her paws on my leg and give me the most pitiful look, "Daddy I want to play, come on Daddy lets go play".
She will do the same thing with her moosehide.
If I don't play with her, she will lay down on the floor with her head on her paws and look and look and look and look at me, with a look of disappointment so strong that you have to feel guilty as hell.
And because of all of this and because of all the tricks she can do that I haven't mentioned yet, we are very grateful to have her with us.
Have a wonderful day. the gahillbilly.
