Hello world, how are you today? It has been a wonderful and very quiet Thankgiving day for Claudia and I.
You know, I find myself getting online and immediately signing in to Facebook, and Twitter. And I asked myself, "Why am I doing this" it is like a habit forming drug, I can't get enough of it. I don't contribute an endless stream of comments like some people I know. I do however like to see what is happening with friends and relatives.
My family as well as my wife's family are scattered all across the country, from the east coast to the west coast and from Alaska to Texas. If it weren't for Facebook, Twitter, and our family email, mailing list, we would not keep in touch hardly at all. When I was a kid growing up, pretty much all of my family, including Aunts, Uncles, cousins, second cousins, and even freeloaders were located in the State of Maryland. This included both my Dad's and my Mom's side of the family. The only time anyone went out of state or out of country was when they served in one of the military branches. During those times most people wrote letters to one another to keep everyone up to date on your families doings. When the families went visiting the adults would sit around taking about jobs, babies, fights, pregnancies, funny things we kids did, politics and religion.
The most fun was had by the adults telling the most embarrassing thing each child, or adult for that matter, did.
It made for a lot of hilarity. I really miss those times.
The advent of the internet and its ability to communicate worldwide has made it possible for families to keep in touch with each other at a very minimal cost. It can be instantaneous or it can be posted. Either way it allows us much better communications.
I for one was never very good at letter writing. Back in those days, writing a synopsis was a chore I did not enjoy. As I have gotten older I find myself willing and able to write chatty missives.
Well thanks for listening.
God Bless from the gahillbilly.
