On Being Introspective.

On Being Introspective.

What causes oneself to be introspective?

I have been thinking about this question. Why does one become introspective. What I have found is that when something I am watching on TV or reading something in a book, will cause me to remember something about Claudia. It could be a happy memory or it could be a sad memory.

I could also trigger a memory about a friend or relative, once again it can be a happy memory or a sad memory.

I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or not. Why? because it makes me think of other older folks I have known who lived in their memories. I remember thinking, these people have nothing to live for but their memories. I think that is very sad.

I would much prefer living in the present, no matter how great it is or how trying it may be. At least by living in the present and interacting with family, relatives near and far, friends both near and far, and even with strangers. I like to think I'm not really meeting a stranger, I am really meeting a friend I don't know yet.

I have known a few people that never met a person they didn't leave friendlier or happier behind. I currently try to be friendly and pleasant to all the people I interact with. You might want to try it, it is a lot less stressful for yourself as well as the person you interact with.

There are several things I am very grateful for, they are listed below:

1. I am grateful for the 12 years of marriage to my first wife Bobbi, and for the four beautiful daughters of that marriage.

2. I am grateful for 40 years of marriage to my second wife Claudia and for the beautiful daughter of that marriage.

3. I am grateful for all of my grandchildren.

4. I am grateful for all of my great grandchildren.

5. I am grateful for my long life and for the doctors and medical miracles that keep me alive.

6. I am grateful for the fact that I still have all my faculties.(except maybe for a little sex)

7. I am grateful for still having a drivers license and the ability to still drive safely.

8. I am grateful to God and especially his son Jesus who died for me that I may be forgiven for my sins.

9. I am grateful for the many Doctors over the years that have saved my life.

10. I am especially grateful for the Heart doctors at Piedmont Hospital who have been crucial in keeping my heart working at close to normal for longer than 10 years. Without their skill and the major improvements in Medical Technology, I wouldn't be alive today.

11. I am grateful for all my friends in Town Center Community Church. They are there for me and they pray for me. It means a lot to me.

12. I am grateful for my friends and relatives around the country and around the world.

13. I am grateful to be able to live in a comfortable and affordable apartment in a private home.

14. I am grateful for the privilege of  having a very nice workshop, in which to pursue my woodworking hobby.

15. I give thanks that I am a relatively good cook, so I eat pretty well.

Now, thank the Lord and pass the potatoes.

I will meditate on this article for a while, before I decide to publish it.

OK! I have meditated on this article and decided to publish it.
