A MAJOR OPERATION.

MY SIX BYPASS OPERATION

I was just thinking about how long ago I had my heart bypass operation.
It was 27 years ago folks, just think about it, 27 years. I was only 56 years old.

Why you ask is this even important, its really important, it's part of my life. I think it should me noted that for a couple of years before I had the operation, I had been spending all that time scrambling just to earn enough money to survive.

The company I had been working for closed their plant down and I was left out in North Carolina trying to find work. This was in 1987 and Claudia, Elizabeth, and I were considered outsiders even though we had been living there for 5 years. So our friends were those that we made at our Church in Raleigh. Apparently if you weren't born and raised in North Carolina, you were not welcome, especially if you were a yankee which is what I am.

At any rate, after three years of odd jobs and several hundred resumes I finally landed a job here in McDonough. That was in 1990.

I had been working at NEC about a year when I was diagnosed with serious blockages in my arteries and wound up with having 6 bypasses all at one time. After the operation and suitable recovery and physical therapy I went back to work and actually felt fine for several years. About 10 years ago, I started having more blockages, mainly due to the bypasses and I have now had 24 stents added to my menagerie.

Add to that, I also have an artificial knee and an artificial hip.

All of this leads up to the fact, that here I am 83 years old and still alive and kicking.

Thank you Lord for everything. Amen.
