HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT WRITING YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY?

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT WRITING YOUR OWN AUTOBIOGRAPHY?

That's right, thinking about writing your own biography? I have, in fact, I have already started writing my autobiography, and you know what, it ain't easy.

First question, what do you include in your bio? I really didn't know what to include when I started writing. I actually just started by writing about the first things that came to mind. You know what, after going back and reading and re-reading, I discovered that most of what I have written has been some incident or occasion that is associated with some form of emotion.

Those emotions can and do include; love, happiness, sadness, anger, fear, stress, pride, jealousy, and even depression. Other things that can trigger a memory are power, poverty, and ambition. Oh yes! one other thing that can trigger your memory is taste, yes taste.

Another thing that will cause or trigger a memory is something that has been repeatedly told about yourself, either to yourself, or to other people. As an example, I come from a large family with lots of relatives, and while growing up my relatives including my own parents would visit their parents, siblings, aunts and uncles fairly frequently. Usually every major holiday had visiting relatives at our house or at some other relatives house. So everybody talked about either the good things you did, or as was more often the case what you did wrong. And like most families are, they will repeat those stories whenever family got together. Think about this, my father had one brother and seven sisters. I don't remember all of his cousins. My mother had one sister and four brothers. Once again, I don't remember how many cousins. Then of course mom and dad had several aunts and uncles, which are great aunts and uncles to me.

My maternal grandmother, Grandma Brinkman always called me Chub! I really hated that name but she wouldn't stop calling me that, the reason she did so is because I weighed in at over 10 lbs when I was born. So she called me Chub and the name stuck in her mind. The rest of the family called my Sonny, because I was Vic Jr, so everybody called me Sonny instead of Junior, especially since one of my Uncles was called Junior since he was named Fred Brinkman Jr. after his father.

I know that some of my readers have read some of what I have written in my autobiography, but not all of you. You will notice what I have said above is true.

I think that those people who keep a diary have a head start on writing a biography, since they should be able to consult said diary or journal for reminders as to what went on and when. In my case, since I was in the Army Security Agency, I didn't dare keep any kind of written or recorded diary or journal. Having it fall into the wrong hands would have been a catastrophe. I do however remember much of what I did, and where I went while in the ASA both as a soldier and as a civilian. All told spent 13 years in the ASA. Then another 2 years in Propaganda Warfare Division of the Department of Defense.

Think about your life, can you remember every day? especially when it is a routine day, you get up do your morning routine, go to work, do your job, go home, watch television, tell the kids a bedtime story, then go to bed, and get up and do it all over again. Boring isn't it.

So the question remains, what do you include in your autobiography.

All my readers are invited to comment.

God Bless from the georgia hillbilly.
