Anticipation of Success Blasted to bits.

Anticipation of Success Blasted to Bits.

Big repair effort to fix Chevy Cavalier is a bust.

Today has been one of accomplishment and one of failure. My friend Bob Hess got out of bed early this morning, drove 65 miles to assist me in installing a complete new ignition system in my Chevy Cavalier. In addition, we got the van towed over to Day's Chevrolet in Acworth where my friend Billy can work on it(it quit on me Tuesday night and I had to have it towed home) along with me of course. Yep! it's true Donald, the tow truck driver made me sit in back on the bed of the truck: I'm Kidding. Anyway this is the second time Donald has towed my van. Anyway back to the chevy, Bob and I spent the better part of 4 hours cursing, swearing, and trying hard not to throw things, while mounting the parts on the back side of the engine. Bob also replaced the fuel filter while we were at it. Tried to start it and the battery was dead, so we had to charge said battery. After charging the battery I reached for the ignition key and with bated breath turned it on. Well, the engine turned over and over and over, and didn't start. Did a spark test, still no spark. *aaaaarrrrrrgggghhhh* *head slap* Huge disappointment.

To say that both Bob and I were pissed off is putting it mildly. I mean we did all this work with great anticipation, fully expecting the car to start up, and then it doesn't. Geez!

To continue, after cooling down, I got out the manual and was looking at the schematic, and I'm pretty sure that the crankcase position sensor is not working at all. This is a distributerless ignition sensor, and the coils won't fire without the crankcase position sensor signal. The only remaining problem is trying to find out where in the hell the crankcase position sensor is actually located on the engine. (And I don't need some smartass out there telling me it is on the crankcase)

We shall see. I will overcome.

Blessings to everyone, from the gahillbilly.

  1. Probably a bad time to mention that when I last took the chevy in to have it looked at three years ago they said it also needs new shocks, struts, and the engine mounts are cracked.

  2. Bummer! I know very next to nothing about cars and even less about their electronics.
