POLITICAL ASTUTENESS OR THE LACK THEREOF.

POLITICAL ASTUTENESS, LEARNED TO LITTLE TO LATE.

What I am referring to is my own Political acumen or lack thereof. Looking back over my working years, and reflecting on the many things I accomplished during those years, I screwed up.

How did I screw up? Actually it was rather easy; I was always focused on three things with my work,
First was the fact that I had to earn a living in order to support my family.
Second was the fact that I was driven to do the best job possible.
Third I subscribed to all of the  free technical publications I could find, and I subscribed to all the catalogs of electronic, mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical catalogs I could find. I did this in order to keep up with the leading edge of the electronics and manufacturing fields. I even purchased some of the publications in order to have access to their content.

While all of those goals are laudable, when focused on just those three objectives you lose sight of any other goals or objectives you should also consider.

What I didn't consider was the need to be more astute in how and why business succeeds, and in how the politics of business works. I in fact avoided learning or participating in the politics of business, and I certainly didn't concern myself with the how and why business succeeds, other then keeping the company I worked for open for business so I could earn my salary.

Now, after leaving the work place due to heart problems forcing me to retire, I can look back at how ignorant I was in not paying a lot more attention to the political in fighting and machinations that went on around me.

Looking back on my work career and on the number of times I solved major equipment problems and major production problems, if I had been more politically astute, I would have made sure I received much bigger cash rewards, and better, faster promotions.

I did see several incidents during my working career, where other people did indeed have the acumen and astuteness to take advantage of something they had done to make major improvements and were extremely well rewarded for doing so.

To say that it pissed me off is putting it mildly.

All I can do at this stage of the game is feel sorry for myself on one hand, but on the other hand I'm very proud of all that I accomplished.

That's all from the gahillbilly.

Blessings to all.
